Why do the new CFL bulbs I purchased not work in any of my lights–lamps or ceiling lights?
I purchased a big package of CFLs hoping to switch out the bulbs all over the house. Well, I have found one socket to date where the CFL will work. Many of my ceiling lights are on dimmers, so I suspect this is the cause for these lights; however, in lamps and other ceiling fixtures (no dimmer), the bulbs do not work. Any ideas??? Thanks.
I recommend that you have an electrician check the voltage available at the light socket.
CFL bulbs are very sensitivde to voltage. If you do not have the exact voltage at the light socket, they will not work.
There could be any number of reasons that the voltage at the light socket is not the exact voltage that you need to operate a CFL, although a standard incandescant bulb will work because it is not sensitive to voltage differences to the extent a CFL is.
